The first 600 Mw unit of Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedar in Hissar district, which will supply power to Haryana, was synchronised with the grid today by Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The CM said the unit has achieved synchronisation on oil and the work on unit-2 is also progressing as per schedule and shall be commissioned before March 2010.
Haryana Power Minister Mahender Pratap Singh said the the first unit after achieving synchronisation on coal in the next 15 days will generate up to 150 to 200 Mw and achieve its full load capacity of 600 Mw by the end of January 2010.
The project is part of the state government"s commitment to add 5,000 Mw power generation capacity during the Eleventh Five Year Plan, Hooda said. The unit-2 of this project is next in line for commissioning in March 2010.
This Greenfield project has been completed in a record time of 35 months. Work for turnkey implementation was awarded during January 2007 to now Reliance Infra Structure.
The project has been allocated coal linkage of 5.55 million tonnes per annum from Mahanadi Coalfields in Orissa.
