The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is working on using space applications to improve rural health infrastructure through telemedicine. Already 55 super specialty hospitals and 350 nursing homes have been connected and more will be added shortly, said Isro chairman K Radha Krishna.

Inaugurating GI Mentor, a computer-assisted endoscopy simulator at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) here, he said the telemedicine facility, touching some islands too, was providing reliable healthcare to lakhs of people. Simulation played a major role in space and health spheres.
AIG chairman D Nageswara Rao said AIG would expand its telemedicine facility once its becomes a partner in the national comprehensive health database project.
